Pride and Prejudice

18 August, 2022

Hello friends, here I am going to write a blog on Pride and Prejudice. Which is assigned by Yesha ma'am.

                   Pride and Prejudice

1) Which version of the novel is more appealing? Novel or film (adaptation)? Why?

→ According to me the original book is generally better than a movie adaptation, but some movies are better than their books.

I think film is very adaptation as well as novel because reader totally happy with what they see on screen.

The film gave us more realistic characters then the move particularly Bingly's sister. Also the romance between Darcy and Elizabeth seems more well motivated then in the movie. The movie makes Mr.Bennett a more charming character, Mrs. Bennett a more lovable character and Ketherine is also much more majestic.

I like the novel but Austen leaves out some important dialogue when Elizabeth and Mr.Darcy finally get together. The movie series completes it nicely.

Most often although not always the book is better. That's because novels explore the inner lives of characters, whereas a film script depends entirely on what you can convey through words, actions and expressions.

2) Character of Elizabeth Bennet :

→  Elizabeth displays courage several times in the novel. She is honest throughout the story, even if the opinion is negative. Further more, Elizabeth can look at her flaws, admit her mistakes and do better.

Elizabeth Bennet is bold, intelligent and independent, with a witty sense of humour. She considers herself to be a proper young lady and a good judge of characters.

Elizabeth Bennet has many admirable qualities. She is loyal to her loved ones. Elizabeth is also highly intelligent and wise enough to learn from her mistakes.

She is lovely, clever and in a novel defined by dialogue. She converses brilliantly as anyone. Her honesty, virtue and lively wit enable her to rise above the nonsense and bad behaviour that pervade her classbound and often spitful society.

In the Regency Era was defined by women wanting education and an equal position in family and homes. In this era the ideal lady had to be modest, beautiful and rich, wealthy husband. This is greatly highlighted in this satirical novel of the upper class. Elizabeth Bennet is feminist wanting equal positioning in society.

3) Character of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy :

→ Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy is a protagonist of the novel. Mr. Darcy is a proud and arrogant man, most interestingly with the meaning of positive and negative traits, Darcy seems deeply human.

Darcy is quite conscious of his standing in society. He is one of the gentry inheriting a fortune and so he is the most adorable young man of the that time England.

Darsy is an ideal master, an excellent brother and a generous and good natural gentleman.

Darsy's love for Elizabeth is genuine and his sincerity cannot be questioned. Though in appearance he is found to be in conflict with Elizabeth, his emotional involvement intensifies his attachment to her.

4) Give an illustration of the society of that time.

→ According to me in those days girls were married for money. Girls were not even asked to choose their partner. So girls had to marry any man. This was a very bad reality of those times.

Even though the girl has full right to choose her partner, it does not happen. So the girls have to get married due to the pressure of the family even though they do not like the man. Due to which girls have to face many situations. And finally the girls have no other option but to bear it. They can't do anything about it and can't say anything to anyone.

5) If you were a director or screenplay writer, what sort of difference would you make in the making of a movie?

→ If I was a director of the movie Pride and prejudice first I don't like Mrs. Bennet. NoShe is a crazy lady. I mean the only aim of her life is to marry her daughters, that's a bit too much.

And second point I'd give Mr. Bennet one or two sons. So his estate could be inherited by his own sons instead of Mr. Collins. He would be more involved in his children's education. The sons would stop their mother and younger sisters from being stupid. The sons would have communication with Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy. The sons could marry miss. Darcy.

6) Who would be your choice of actors to play the role of characters?

→ Elizabeth     : Kriti Sanon

     Mr.  Darcy   : Allu Arjun

     Mr. Bingley : Varun Dhavan

     Jane            : Emma Watson

     Mr. Collins  : Malhar Thakar

     Wickham     : Arunoday Singh

7) Write a note on a scene you liked the most.

→ My favourite scene is probably or tie between Lucasl Lodge and Darcy talking to Elizabeth at the piano at Rosings. Both are such perfect illustrations of there characters.

Other than that I would have to say pretty much every scene where Darcy and Elizabeth are sparing with each other so sweet and entertaining.

8) Compare the narrative strategy of novel and movie.

→  Both versions have created generations of fans, but all things considered, the movie is quite different from the novel as movies are bit quicker than the novel's. The movie eliminates some important characters, the movie also combined certain scenes into one. The movie was not exactly accurate to the novel. As there is a big generation gap between the novel and the movie, and the setting was modern than then it was described in the book. The movie also lacks some supporting characters, and they presented in novel. There are many things that are not describe in the novel but are shown in the movie and that are described in the novel but not shown in the novel.

In the movie version we see a lot of visual effects being used, the different locations in which the movie was shoot. The most iconic quote from the movie is not in the book, "you have witched me, body and soul" and it was not in the novel. However, it's a beautiful line and it fits perfectly with the movie.

Overall Pride and prejudice is definitely among the best literature adaptation.

Thank you…
