Thinking Activity : Trands and Movements

Hello friends, here I am writing this blog on Surrealism, Expressionism and Dadaism Art.

Surrealism :

The word surrealist comes from two other words 'sur' which means over or above, and 'reality', which means reality.

The first known use of the word 'surrealism' was in 1917 by André Breton, a French poet, and writer who helped to establish and define the movement. Surrealism is an artistic style that came about as a result of a need for expression during World War I.

What Is Surrealism?

Surrealism is a form of art that uses the creative imagination to generate images or ideas that are impossible in reality.

Surrealism is a French art movement that began in the early 1920s and continued throughout the twentieth century.

Surrealism is the practice of using techniques such as juxtaposition, non-sequiturs, irrational juxtapositions, and disturbances in a way that evokes an emotional reaction from its audience.

Surrealist art often has no coherent meaning but can be seen as a creative outlet for exploring themes like dreams, desires, and the subconscious.

Dadaism :

Dadaism was an art movement lasting from approximately 1916 to 1925. ‘Dada’ was supposed to be a nonsense word which symbolised the style of art in this movement. It began in Switzerland and was heavily influenced by the First World War.

Dada art expressed negative feelings about the war, nationalism and conflict. Dadaists declared that any object could be a piece of art, which created some outrage.
Some famous Dadaists included Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst and Hannah Hoch.

Expressionism

Expressionism is a modernist movement that emerged in early 20th-century Germany. Artists working in this style distort the reality of their subjects in order to “express” their own emotions, feelings, and ideas. With an aesthetic and approach heavily inspired by the paintings of Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch.
