Review :
Few movies will leave a lasting impression on you, Life of Pi is one of those. Not even a single moment is dull, in fact the story is woven so tightly that you never realise that the script is so simple. Not only was he able to capture the beauty of India, he was also able to get the best of the actors.
Starting out with the older Pi recounting his unbelievable life story to an author,we travel down memory lane and are briefly introduced to Pi's childhood in picturesque Pondicherry, his family-owned zoo and his faith in God and religion.
This is the most wonderfully original movie I have seen in such a long time. It is set up with an amazing touch. We are absorbed into the Indian culture by some of the most lovely people. They are understanding of Pi's dilemmas and his religious confusion. They support him, although he is an arrogant little twit at times.
The movie narrates an incredible story using the most beautiful special effects and great actors. It is more that a survival story and it is not about friendship. This story is about faith. Director Ang Lee use all the tools he have to make this movie about a solitary young man not a boring one. It is narrated by both, young Pi and the Adult Pi, it uses music all the time so there is not space for uncomfortable silents and the rhythm of the scenes is fast. The result a very entertained film.
The most important thing of this film is it character. It is obvious because we are seeing for almost 2 hours just one character. So it is not only important to have a great character that appeals to the audience feelings, but to have an actor that portray this person the right way. Suraj Sharma was brilliant as Pi. He can make happy scenes as equal as sad, desperate, hopelessness, exhaustion and anger ones. Very few movies allow an actor represent so many emotions.
But if Pi is a good character, tiger can only be describe as unique. The tiger as personality of it's own. Not many films can make an animal with so many human features and yet never stop being a wild animal. This tiger is computed animated but the audience will barely notice, because the way it walks, eats, its factions, the eyes. It doesn't matter if it is computer animation, Richard Parker is alive and is his own character just as important as Pi is.
This is one of the best films of the year, and on-par with the depth and cinematography in Samsara, making this year one of the most beautiful.
2) Which version of the story is more appealing ?
I personally feel that reading a book is much then based on it. While you read the book you are free to imagine. The contents l but when you want watch the movie you are imposed with the director's thinking.
All books are better their movies. I mean, it a book you read the thoughts, the feelings. You capture the moment, because it's like someone telling you their story. In a movie, you are on the outside looking in. In a book. You are a part of the story.
Both the book and the movie can be considered timeless masterpieces. While the book taps into our imagination, the movie thrills our audio-visual senses. The book explores many emotions, while the movie stays more focused on Pi’s journey. Nonetheless, I cannot recommend both enough.
3) What is the significance of ' Tiger' ?
The adventure story- life of Pi revolves around a 17 year old Indian boy who had an inconceivable journey with a tiger on the Pacific Ocean. When Pi and his family moved to Canada, the ship sank by the catastrophe. Pi's family died by this tragedy, but Pi survived on a small boat. Although there are several animals on the boat, only Pi and tiger survived at the end of the adventure which happened on the Pacific Ocean. Furthermore tiger left Pi away and he want to the forest without any reaction.
In Life of Pi animals play a significant role in the story by displaying Pi's changing personality the friendship between Pi and tiger and the belief of humans and animals are equal. Animal play a significant role in the story by displaying Pi's changing personality.
Tigers are predator and stronger than Pi. Animals imagery can change the story to male it more attractive and mysterious. In this adventure Pi lost everything. At the beginning of the novel Pi was surrounded by animals instead of humans. At the end Pi was alone on and Island. Tiger is not only the animal but also Pi's best friend or even the Pi's shadow. However tiger used to lived in the forest and Pi needs go back to the real world.
4) What is the significance of 'Island' ?
The film Life of Pi directed by Ang Lee, is a fable for our climate change times. Much of the plot involves the struggles of a teenage boy named Pi, trying to survive a shipwreck in which his family dies Pi becomes stranded in the Pacific Ocean on a life boat with a tiger.
After many trials Pi and tiger reach a strange Island made of plants that Pi eats. It has a forest, fresh water pools, and a large population of meerkats that sustain tiger. At night, however the meerkats flee to the trees and tiger to the life boat.
Pi watches from a branch as the island's freshwater turns acidic digesting fish that have died in the pools the seas that the water around the island is filled with fluorescent jellyfish. Pi finds a human tooth inside a flower. He decides the island is carnivorous the island is carnivorous and decides to leave with the tiger in their boat. The acidic island of the Life of Pi film contains subtle, artistic warning for humanity.
5) What is the difference between Spirituality and Religion and what is the significance of doubt in it ?
Spirituality and religion are not the same. There is a big difference between the two. So, let's find out what is the difference between spirituality and religion.
We believe that religion means going to see, listening to lectures and doing action. However, just think about this that after doing all this, if even a small fault of ours can change our whole life, then can it be called religion?
In today's world, people are considered to be religious only by their external conduct ex, those who go to temple, worship and perform austerities, perform kriya kanda, fast and give alms are all considered religious, others are not. Not considered. However, it all depends on one's internal energy, as it plays an important part, ex, what is the inner focus, what kind of anger, honor, love and greed is filled, whether there is any sense of cheating and robbing people. There is a price, and so many things must be verified. That is because it alone can determine one's actual spiritual progress.
• Spirituality opens the mind.
• Religion binds you.
• Religion threatens and frightens,
• Spirituality is governed by ability to reason out actions, thinking and gives inner peace.
• Religion speaks of sins and guilt and how to refrain from that.
• Religion is human. It is an organization with rules made by men.
• Spirituality is divine, without any intervention of human rules.
• Religion talks of life after death, sin for wrong deeds and punishments for misdeeds as interpreted by religious scriptures.
• Spirituality is to find true independence, freedom, peace, solace, in ourselves during this life itself.
• Religion fills us with the notion of glory, luxury in paradise, and there is a hell as well.
• Spirituality makes us live in the glory of ourself, being a human being and in its environment. It says that the mind itself can make a living that can be hell or heaven, mind is everything.
• Religion can be cause of divisions as there can be many faiths all antithetical to each other. So it can be Islam, it can be Christianity or..
• Spirituality never divides, it is the most unifying force. There cannot be Islamic spirituality, or Christian spirituality.
We are not human beings, who go through a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings, who go through a human experience.
Religion is a path; it is a method, a way to live a life. Spirituality is actually based on realisation; Spirituality is realisation to seek a purpose of life, the value of existence. Religion allows you to exist, spirituality allows you to live, and most people merely exist.
Thank you...
